Reading Week 2014
March 15, 2014
March 3rd-7th brought another successfull Reading Week to Northwood-Kensett. To many students and teachers, it's better known as "Dr. Seuss Week," since it is planned around Dr. Seuss' birthday!
This year, all classes participated in a Door Decorating contest. All classes chose a favorite Seuss book and decorated their classroom door in that theme. There is a photo album of these photos that are available on our school Facebook page if you'd like to check the doors out!
Here's one great door from Mrs. Kroneman's class!
Throughout the week, other special treats were lined up for the students. Peter and the rest of the kitchen gang made green eggs and ham for all elementary students. Special readers came to read to all classes throughout the week.
Thank You to Our Special Readers: Cindy Pangburn, Genie Foss, Connie Hickle, Mrs. Katcher, Teresa Stehn, Aaron Woltzen, Liela Gangstad, Mr. Crozier, Sarah Danik from KIMT Channel 3, Colleen O'Shaughnessy from KIMT Channel 3, Heidi Rebelein, Dave VerHelst, and Susan Kliment. Our students appreciate you taking the time out of your day to come read for us!
On Thursday, the annual Reading Week assembly was held. Throughout the week, students voted for their favorite Dr. Seuss books and the winners were announced.
The winners were:
3rd Place: Oh, The Places You'll Go!
2nd Place: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
1st Place: The Lorax
We have a tradition at Northwood-Kensett of playing our own version of a popular game show during the Reading Week assembly. We've played popular games such as "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" and "Family Feud." This year, two contestants from each grade got to play "Minute to Win It" games.
This year's contestants were:
Kindergarten: Jocelyn Kuhlmann & Emersyn Wahl
1st Grade: Austin Orth & Brody Paulsen
2nd Grade: Collin Kuhlmann & Kelsi Liddle
3rd Grade: Isaiah Heeren & Ian Husske
4th Grade: Josiah Kliment & Isabella Hoch
5th Grade: Brandon Varner & Olivia Stilley
6th Grade: Cameron Campbell & Makaio Hoch
Thanks to all who made Reading Week possible!
