The Northwood-Kensett Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 8:00 pm in the Secondary Technology Room and conducted the following business:

Members present:  John Anderson; Larry Hovey; Susan Kliment; Cindy Pangburn; Roger Harris

Approved the agenda, November 13th minutes, November Financial Reports and December Bills for payment

At 8:06 pm, meeting moved to Mrs. Knudson’s science room to observe hands on learning of muscle dissection.  Returned to meeting room at 8:25 pm      Reports

Elementary:  1) Preschool site visitation summary  2) Manna Donations  3) 2015-16 Calendar Development  4)  Holiday music performances

Secondary:  1) Top of Iowa Conference principals meeting  2) Curriculum adoption for fine arts, career/technical fields 

Superintendent:  1) Architect Firm interviews  2) WCDA Safety Proposal contractors  3) Secondary FACS/East Hall Renovation project schedule  4) Settling issue in Elementary  5) Enrollment trends, open enrollment in/out, solvency ratio, drop out prevention

Board:  1) Next regular meeting January 8th will be at High School Chorus Room with Architect interviews beginning at 6:00 pm and regular meeting at 7:00 pm  2) Recap of IASB Convention

Old Business:  

Elementary Settling Issue - Further investigation will be conducted by Braun Intertec; no action taken

New Business

Approved the 2014-15 Modified Supplemental Amount for Dropout Prevention up to $123,225.00

Approved a request to the SBRC for Modified Supplemental Amount for Open Enrollment Out in the amount of $48,968.00

Appointed John Anderson as the Northwood-Kensett CSD representative to the Worth County Conference Board

Approved the second reading of changes to Policies 702 Cash in School Buildings; 704.2R1 Post-Issuance Compliance Regulation for Tax-Exempt Obligations; 704.6 Debt Management Policy; 705.1 Purchasing – Bidding; 705.5 Payment for Goods and Services; 707.6 Audit Committee; 710.2 Free or Reduced Cost Meals Eligibility; 711.2R2 Use of Video Cameras on School Buses Regulation

Approved the review of Board Policy Series 300 with no revisions

Approved the awarding of the Security Camera System Installation to Electronic Engineering for $70,972.00

Approved the awarding of the Bus Light LED Replacement to Hoglund Bus Company for $16,442.00

Approved the District Identity Guide

Approved Ron Dodd as a volunteer assistant wrestling coach

Meeting adjourned at 9:45 pm
