The Northwood-Kensett Board of Directors met in a Regular Meeting on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 in the Elementary Media Center at 7:00 P.M.

Members present: Larry Hovey; Cindy Pangburn, John Anderson; Susan Kliment; Roger Harris;  Members Absent:  none

(5-0) Approved the agenda, with an addition of a closed session in regards to new business item #3 Open Enrollment Request;  April 11th regular meeting minutes; Financial Reports for April; May bills for payment

2015-16 Budget Amendment Hearing held with no public comments
(5-0) Amended the 2015-2016 budget

Marty Cotter & Amy Price, secondary teachers; and Cole Estes & Nathan Hannemann, JH students; presented classroom activities from the new AWIM class offered this year.

Jake Urbatsch & Carrie Wagner, second grade teachers, presented on eBooks in the Classroom

Elementary Principal: 1) Kindergarten Orientation May 6th with 41 students attending  2) 6th grade orientation May 4th  3) Elementary Track & Field Day May 18th  4) Preschool Graduation May 18-20  5) Iowa Assessment data
Secondary Principal: 1) Mr. Barnes applied for Iowa Arts Council Grant  2) Senior week: Last day of class, Senior Project Showcase & Awards night May 11th; CPR training May 12-13; Graduation practice May 12; Ceremony May 15th  3) On-site mental health student counseling by Turning Leaf Mason City for their clients 4) Iowa Assessment data
Superintendent: 1) On stage for graduation: John, Cindy, Larry  2) Construction Project Update  3) WCDA grant $250,000 for construction project  4) May is Board Member Appreciation month
Board: 1) Next regular meeting rescheduled to June 6th at 8:00 pm  2) School Board Convention Nov 16-18  3) Snacks delivered to staff for Teacher Appreciation Week May 2-6

Old Business:  Wind turbine update – waiting on response from Alliant Energy regarding Purchase Price Agreement transfer

New Business
School Board Recognition - Certificates presented to school board members for their service to the district

(5-0) Approved Class of 2016 for graduation

(5-0) Approved change order in the amount of $35,500 for Michel’s Power for equipment not included in the original bid

(5-0) Approved sharing agreement with Lake Mills for the Family and Consumer Science teacher for the 2016-17 school year

(5-0) Approved a resolution to add Health Savings Account option to the district’s Flexible Benefits Plan with EBC

(5-0) Approved minutes of the District Advisory Committee and Annual Progress Report Goals for 2016-17 as presented by Deb Nagle, District Curriculum Director

(5-0) Approved agreement with Waldorf University for clinical experiences and student teaching

(5-0) Approved holding an auction on May 26, 2016 to dispose of outdated equipment

(5-0) Approved Jayden Ott as Director of Nutritional Services for the 2016-17 school year

(5-0) Accepted resignation of Lee Okerlund, Secondary Math teacher effective at the end of the 2015-16 school year

(5-0) Accepted resignation of Jayden Ott for Junior High Girls Track at the end of the 2016 season.

(5-0) Accepted resignation of Ethan Weiss, Secondary Associate, at the end of the 2015-16 school year

(5-0) Approved Logan Benson as volunteer assistant softball coach for summer 2016 season pending coaching authorization completion.

(5-0) Accepted resignation of Steve Hartman as Junior High Girls Basketball coach for 2016-17 school year pending a suitable replacement is found

(5-0) Approved Kimberly Borowczyk as secondary math teacher for the 2016-17 school year

Entered closed session at 8:30 pm under Iowa Code Chapter 21.5 (1)(a) to discuss a confidential student record. Came out of closed session at 8:41 pm

(5-0) Approved open enrollment request as presented for the 2016-17 school year

Adjourned meeting at 8:44 pm
