The Northwood-Kensett Board of Directors met in a Regular Meeting on Thursday, September 8, 2016 in the Elementary Media Center at 7:00 P.M.

Members present:  Susan Kliment; John Anderson; Cindy Pangburn; Larry Hovey; Roger Harris

(5-0) Approved the agenda, August 11th regular meeting minutes, Financial Reports for August, September bills for payment

Public Comments: 
Aaron Carmen, Northwood Economic Development Corporation, and Amber Julseth, City of Northwood, addressed the board regarding preliminary plans for building a street on the north side of the secondary building in order to access a future housing development project.

Reports:
Elementary Principal:  1) Farm Safety Day Sept 2nd  2) Elementary Open House and Book Fair Sept 15th 6-7pm  3) Elementary Homecoming Activities 

Secondary Principal:  1) NK is one of 191 schools with no athlete or coach ejections during 2015-16  2) National Honor Society participation in TIC leadership training Sept 14th; Toys for Tots drive  3) Viking Way student leaders leadership training Sept 6th in Ft Dodge  4) Turning Leaf Counseling on site ½ day every 2 weeks  5) Registration update  6) Mr. Ehlke presented information and demonstrated the drone he is using in his classes.  He will also be collaborating with other teachers to use the drone in their classes.

Superintendent: 1) Preliminary Enrollment Numbers  2) HVAC systems Energy Study for secondary building  3) Mrs. Butler and Mrs. Odegaard gave an update on the TLC kickoff

Board:  1) Next regular meeting is October 13th  2) IASB convention Nov 16-18 attendees  3) Annual financial audit on Sept 10th

Old Business – no action taken
Sharing Agreement Update – Transportation & Maintenance agreements are on hold until St Ansgar has filled all their transportation positions; Human Resources position has been advertised and interviews will begin after Sept 15th

Wind Turbine Update – Prospective buyer working on their offer

New Business:
(5-0) Approved the continuation of the Worth County Conservation Board Naturalist Program at a cost of $3,800.00

(5-0) Approved the membership of the district advisory committee as presented

(5-0) Approved the Sure Service bid in the amount of $12,500 for the replacement of the elementary walk-in freezer

(5-0) Appointed Keith Fritz as the Superintendent’s designee for Juvenile Court Records

(5-0) Approved an agreement with Turning Leaf Counseling Inc. to do Assessment/ Counseling/Therapy at the secondary building

(5-0) Approved the bus routes as presented for the 2016-17 school year

(5-0) Approved the Talented and Gifted Program as presented

(5-0) Approved the list of organization fundraisers as presented for the 2016-17 school year

(5-0) Approved Kate Hartman as Junior High Girls Basketball Coach and volunteer assistant volleyball coach for the 2016-17 school year

(5-0) Approved Amy Price as Junior High Girls Track Coach for the 2016-17 school year

(5-0) Approved Kim Borowczyk as National Honor Society Advisor for the 2016-17 school year

(5-0) Approved Myra Werner as part time night custodian at the elementary for the 2016-17 school year

(5-0) Accepted the resignation of Michael Kessel as 7th grade boys basketball coach effective immediately pending obtaining a suitable replacement

Adjourned the meeting at 8:37 pm
