September 13, 2018 School Board Minutes

The Northwood-Kensett Board of Directors met in a Regular Meeting on Thursday, September 13, 2018 in the Secondary Technology Director’s Office at 6:00 P.M.


Members present: John Anderson; Cindy Pangburn; Larry Hovey; Roger Harris

Members Absent: Susan Kliment


(4-0) Approved the agenda


Director Kliment joined the meeting at 6:02 pm


(5-0) Approved the August 9th board minutes; Financial Reports for August; September bills for payment



Elementary Principal:  1) Early literacy testing results show district and statewide progress in K-3 students who met or surpassed benchmarks  2) Farm Safety Day Sept 7 sponsored by Farm Bureau  3) Elementary Open House and Book Fair Sept 20, 6-7 pm  4) Homecoming Week Activities


Secondary Principal:  1) Worth County Sheriff’s Dpt conducted search of secondary school student lockers & cars with a drug canine unit from neighboring counties on Sept 5th.  Upper elementary students were given a demonstration following the search  2) Homecoming week festivities Sept 10-15  3) Researching purchase of a large touchscreen monitor for commons     area to showcase history of athletic MVPs and records  4) ACT score data arriving soon will be used to see if efforts to improve average scores in English, Reading, Science have had an impact


Director Kliment left the meeting at 6:22 pm


Superintendent: 1) Preliminary enrollment numbers are up slightly   2) Nutrition Review results from last spring are favorable  3) Open House for secondary construction projects scheduled for Oct 11th 6-7 pm


Board:  1) Next Regular Board Meeting scheduled for October 11th  in Mr. Hartman’s room 2) Annual financial audit field work Sept 10-11  3) Notified that N-K was a named beneficiary in the Estate of Bernard Bidne to establish a Bidne-Jorde Farm Scholarship   4) IASB Convention Nov 14-15


Old Business

Construction Update – HVAC scheduled for completion by Sept 21; IA/Ag building scheduled for completion by end of September


New Business

(4-0) Approved the second reading of changes to policies 215 Public Participation in Board Meetings; deletion of policies 215.1R1 General Complaints by Citizens and 402.5 Public         Complaints about Employees; addition of policy 215.1 Public Complaints


(4-0) Approved the continuation of the Worth County Conservation Board Naturalist Program for a cost of $3,800


(4-0) Appointed Keith Fritz as the Superintendent’s designee for Juvenile Court Records


(4-0) Approved the bus routes for the 2018-19 school year as presented


(4-0) Approved the District Advisory Committee Minutes from August 20, 2018 and the 2018-2019 membership as presented by Mr. Crozier with the addition of board members Susan Kliment and Larry Hovey         


(4-0) Approved Anne Flathman as Speech Coach for the 2018-2019 school year


(4-0) Approved Madison Dorsey as an elementary associate for the 2018-2019 school year


(4-0) Approved Brenda Ravlin as secondary associate for the 2018-2019 school year


(4-0) Approved Kimberly Bode as an elementary associate for the 2018-2019 school year


(4-0) Approved Jessica Hendrikson as secondary associate for the 2018-2019 school year


(4-0) Approved associate wage adjustments for the 2018-2019 school year as presented by Mr. Crozier


(4-0) Adjourned the meeting at 6:45 pm
