2018 Rube Goldberg Machine Competition

By Willert, Lori

February 08, 2018

NK Math Club members and Physics students are preparing for the Iowa Rube Goldberg contest to be held in St. Ansgar Monday, February 19.  Public is welcome to attend the first round of judging which begins at noon.  The awards ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm.  This year’s theme task is “Pour a bowl of cereal”.  The team must come up with 20 or more steps before completing the task.

The registration fee to enter is very expensive, $395 per machine.  Plus the materials to build and design a 6’ x’ 6’ x’ 6’ machine to pour the bowl of cereal.   We are able to have two teams of students participate thanks to the following very generous sponsors:  ADA Enterprises, Bratrud’s Golf, Injection Technology Diesel Service, Kenison Construction, TruStile Doors, Universal Contractors.    The winner of this Iowa contest travels to Columbus, Ohio in March to compete at the national level.

Physics Teacher Cindy Trettin and Math Club Advisor Lori Willert are assisting the following teams:
