N-K Rube Goldberg Team Takes 3rd in 1st Iowa Rube Goldberg Competition!

The 2016 Task:  Open an umbrella
 
The competition was held at St. Ansgar High School, Monday, February 22, and will be the first-ever Rube Goldberg competition held in the state of Iowa.  Other years the Math Club has traveled to the University of Minnesota, Mankato, MN.
 
A big thank you to Trustile Doors, Inc. of Northwood!  Their business sponsored the team's $150 registration fee.  Thank you to Mr. Tuthill’s students who did the Mary Poppins background:  Courtney Wright, Emily Follmuth, and Tyra Sledge.  Thank you to Ashlynn Schaefer for designing the team’s Rube t-shirts.

The NK Machine ran flawlessly the first time judged.  We had to intervene three times on the second run, and a domino flew outside of the allowed space. It ran well enough to make it to the final five teams out of 12 that participated.  In the finals, we had to intervene three times.

We earned third place. Second was Rockford First was St. Ansgar.
