By-Laws
ARTICLE I—NAME
The name of this organization shall be the Northwood-Kensett Athletic Hall of Fame.
ARTICLE II—PURPOSE
The Northwood-Kensett Athletic Hall of Fame aims to recognize and honor exceptional student-athletes, coaches, administrators and other deserving individuals for their achievements/support regarding the athletic programs at Northwood-Kensett High School. Outstanding accomplishments of student-athletes in their collegiate and personal success after high school will also be taken into consideration. However, the primary criteria for being selected is what each student-athlete did or accomplished as a high school athlete at Northwood-Kensett
ARTICLE III—GOVERNANCE
The Northwood-Kensett Athletic Hall of Fame shall be governed by a volunteer committee, working collaboratively with Northwood-Kensett High School athletic administration and the local community as required.
ARTICLE IV—COMMITTEE STRUCTURE

Committee Membership Approval & Voting Procedures:
- Committee membership discussions shall occur during scheduled meetings. All voting shall remain confidential.
- Nominees shall receive one of two outcomes:
- Approved for a vacancy/term seat
- Held for future consideration (e.g., in cases of tie votes, unavailable seats, or lack of majority approval)
Committee Member Responsibilities:
Mandatory Committee Responsibility
- Attendance is mandatory when the Selection Committee meets to vote for inductees into the N-K Hall of Fame. All committee members must be in attendance.
Committee members are encouraged to:
- Support and attend annual Hall of Fame voting, banquets, and inductions.
ARTICLE V—HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS
Section 1: Nomination Process
- Nominations may be submitted by anyone including committee members, members of the Northwood-Kensett community or individuals having interest outside of the Northwood-Kensett community.
- Nominations will ONLY be accepted with a completed Northwood-Kensett Hall of Fame nomination form, submitted via:
- By mail (N-K Athletic Hall of Fame, PO Box 133, Northwood, IA 50450)
- Dropped off at Northwood-Kensett High School during business hours.
- The annual deadline for nominations is March 1st of the induction year.
- Nominees will be displayed on the N-K Hall of Fame website and updated periodically.
Section 2: Nomination Categories
Eligible nominees fall into one of four categories:
- Athlete: A former Northwood-Kensett high school athlete with extraordinary achievements worthy of local, regional, or national recognition.
- Team: A former Northwood-Kensett team that demonstrated exceptional success, earning local, regional, or national recognition.
- Coach: A current or former Northwood-Kensett coach whose contributions merit distinction at local, regional, or national levels.
- Administrator/Community Member/Athletic Volunteer: A former administrator, community member or athletic volunteer whose contributions had a significant impact on Northwood-Kensett athletics.
Section 3: Nomination Criteria
- Student Athletes and/or a Team’s accomplishments must be at least 10 years post-graduation or retired to be considered.
- Only sanctioned Iowa High School Athletic Association (Boys) or Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (Girls) sports can be considered for Hall of Fame consideration.
- Nominees must exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct, and moral character.
- Evaluations will prioritize achievements while participating with Northwood-Kensett athletics.
- Significant, long-term contributions are required for coaches, administrators, community member or athletic volunteer; longevity alone does not warrant Hall of Fame selection.
ARTICLE VI—ELECTION PROCESS
Section 1: Guidelines
- 2025 Selection: Maximum seven inductees, with at least five student athletes/teams required.
- 2026 & Beyond: Maximum four inductees, with at least three student athletes/teams required.
- All nominees will be listed publicly on the Hall of Fame website, updated periodically.
Section 2: Voting Considerations
Selections will be based on:
- Degree of recognition
- Significance of accomplishments
- Success during their tenure at Northwood-Kensett High School and participation with Northwood-Kensett athletics
ARTICLE VII—INDUCTION CEREMONY
Section 1: Annual Induction
The Northwood-Kensett Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony shall be held at the first or second home football game each year. Inductees will be notified by the Committee Chairperson, followed by media announcements.
Section 2: Attendance Conflicts
Inductees unable to attend may participate in the following year’s ceremony, but the scheduled induction shall proceed regardless.
Section 3: Deceased Inductees
For deceased inductees, a relative or assigned individual may accept the recognition on their behalf.
ARTICLE VIII—YEARLY SCHEDULE
- Up to March 1st → Nominations accepted
- March 1st → Nominations close for the current year
- Third Monday in March → Committee meets to vote on inductees
- August/Sept → Induction ceremony held at a Viking home football game
ARTICLE IX—BYLAW AMENDMENTS
Any changes to these bylaws may be proposed at any time and require a majority vote by the Northwood-Kensett Athletic Hall of Fame Committee.
